Sound familiar?

Here's what people tell us when they sit down for a lip consultation:

  • "My lips have gotten thinner over the years."

  • "My top lip almost disappears when I smile."

  • "One side looks fuller than the other."

  • "I want them to look hydrated, not done."

  • "I had filler somewhere else and I'm not sure about it."

If any of that sounds like you, a consultation is a good first step. Sometimes the answer is filler. Sometimes it's a lip flip, a smaller amount, or nothing at all.

What happens, step by step

  1. 1

Consultation. We go over your health history and what you'd like to change. In Québec, new patients are assessed by a physician at their first visit.

  2. 2

Numbing. When it's appropriate for you, we apply a numbing cream and give it time to work. Many lip fillers also contain a local anaesthetic.

  3. 3

Injection. Small, careful injections, checking shape and balance as we go. You can ask for a pause at any time.

  4. 4

How long. The whole appointment is about 30 to 60 minutes.

  5. 5

After. Some swelling is normal for a few days. We look at your result together at about 2 weeks.

How the medical side works

Nisrine is a registered nurse. Before your first injectable treatment, a physician assesses you and sets your individual treatment plan. If a future treatment needs a doctor, we bring one in.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

It often suits you if you want a bit more hydration, a clearer lip border, better balance between your top and bottom lip, or to bring back volume you've lost over time.

Skip it or wait if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have a cold sore or infection near your mouth, or have a big event in the next two weeks. We always lean natural, but it's your face - we'll talk it through and tailor it to the look you want.

Not sure? That's what the consultation is for. The full list of things to tell us is in who should wait below.

Is lip filler right for me?

Short answer: Lip filler may suit you if you want more hydration, a better-defined lip border, more balance between your upper and lower lip, or to restore volume lost over time. Whether it is appropriate for you is decided only after a medical assessment of your lips, your health history and your goals.

Many people who come to us for lips aren't looking for a dramatic change. They want their lips to look a little more rested, more even, or more defined. Others have had filler elsewhere and want an honest opinion before doing anything more. All of these are good reasons to book a consultation.

Lip volume varies naturally with genetics and can decrease over time as the skin's support changes. Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in the body that helps hold water and structure, which is why it's commonly used for lip treatments. Your consultation is where we work out what "natural" means for you: a touch more fullness, a crisper border, softer vertical lines, or better symmetry.

Sometimes the right answer is a smaller amount, a different approach (such as a lip flip), or no treatment at all. We'd rather tell you that than recommend something you don't need.

How much does lip filler cost in Montreal at Le RoseWood?

Short answer: As of October 2026, lip hydration with 0.5 mL of hyaluronic acid filler is $400 plus taxes, and lip enhancement with 1 mL is $550 plus taxes. Your exact price is confirmed in person after your assessment.

Our current lip prices (as of October 2026, before taxes):

  • Lip hydration (0.5 mL): $400

  • Lip enhancement (1 mL): $550

  • Profile balancing, chin and lips: $987

  • Lip flip (a neuromodulator treatment, not a filler): $150

  • Consultation with the nurse: complimentary with all treatments

  • Medical consultation / file opening with the physician: $150, included with any treatment of $400 or more

Financing options are available at the clinic for patients who prefer to spread the cost over time. Ask our team for details during your visit.

The full, current list is on our price list. Prices can change, so we always confirm the total with you before treatment begins.

Should I get 0.5 mL or 1 mL of lip filler?

Short answer: It depends on your anatomy and your goal. A 0.5 mL treatment is often chosen for subtle hydration or a first treatment, and 1 mL for more noticeable shape or volume, but the right amount is decided during your consultation, not in advance.

You don't need to arrive knowing how much you want. Volume alone can't predict your result. Your lip structure, the product selected and where it's placed all shape the outcome. Two people asking for "a little more" can need different amounts.

In general:

  • 0.5 mL (lip hydration) is often a fit if you're new to filler, want a soft refresh, or mainly want hydration and a smoother surface.

  • 1 mL (lip enhancement) is often a fit if you want more visible definition, better balance between the upper and lower lip, or more volume.

Our approach is conservative: we aim to use the least product appropriate for the result we agree on. If you're unsure, starting smaller and reassessing at your follow-up is a reasonable choice.

How long does lip filler last?

Short answer: It varies. On our filler page, we list maintenance roughly every 6 to 9 months depending on the area, but how long lip filler lasts depends on the product, the amount, your metabolism, and how much your lips move.

Lips are a very mobile area, so filler there often doesn't last as long as in areas that move less. Some people choose to maintain their results with smaller top-up treatments; others let the filler gradually soften. There's no obligation to keep going, and your lips are reassessed before every new treatment. More on filler in general is on our hyaluronic acid fillers page.

Does lip filler hurt?

Short answer: Some discomfort is possible, and it varies from person to person. We use numbing before lip treatments when appropriate for your medical history, and you can ask for a pause at any time.

Lips are sensitive. Most people describe brief pinching, stinging or pressure. Some hyaluronic acid lip fillers also contain a local anaesthetic to help with comfort. These measures make treatment more comfortable but don't guarantee a completely painless experience.

Tell us if you're nervous, have had an uncomfortable experience before, or need us to slow down. Your comfort is part of the treatment plan, and you never need to "push through."

What does swelling look like, and is there downtime?

Short answer: Mild swelling and bruising are normal and usually settle within a few days. Most people return to ordinary daily activities soon after treatment, but plan for your lips to look fuller than the final result for the first several days. The final result is assessed at about 2 weeks.

What to expect:

  • First 24–48 hours: swelling is usually most noticeable. The lips may feel firm, tender or slightly uneven.

  • Days 3–7: swelling and any bruising usually fade.

  • Around 2 weeks: swelling has generally settled, and we can assess the result together.

Because of this timeline, we suggest booking lip filler at least two weeks before a wedding, photo shoot or important event. There's a day-by-day guide in our Journal: Lip filler healing: what to expect.

What should I do after lip filler?

Short answer: For the first 24 hours, avoid touching or pressing on your lips. Use gentle cold compresses for swelling, and avoid alcohol and intense exercise for 24 to 48 hours. You'll receive written aftercare instructions for your specific treatment.

General aftercare we give for hyaluronic acid filler:

  • Avoid touching, massaging or applying pressure to the treated area for 24 hours.

  • Apply cold compresses gently, wrapped in a clean cloth, to help with swelling.

  • Avoid alcohol and intense exercise for 24 to 48 hours.

  • Expect mild swelling and bruising; they usually resolve within a few days.

  • Attend your follow-up if one is recommended, so we can review your result once swelling has settled.

What are the risks of lip filler?

Short answer: Common side effects include swelling, bruising, tenderness, redness and temporary lumps or unevenness. Rare but serious complications can happen, including a blocked blood vessel, infection, an allergic reaction, or filler moving away from where it was placed. We review these risks with you before any treatment.

Lip filler is a medical procedure, and like any injection it has risks. Choosing a medically supervised clinic, an injector with training in facial anatomy, and a careful assessment all help reduce risk, but none of them can remove it entirely.

Know when to seek urgent help.

Contact the clinic right away, and seek emergency care if needed, if you notice:

  • pain that is unusual or getting worse rather than better,

  • skin that turns white, grey, blue or blotchy,

  • any change in your vision, or

  • signs of a stroke, such as sudden difficulty speaking or weakness. Call 911.

Don't wait for a routine follow-up appointment if any of these happen.

Can lip filler be dissolved?

Short answer: In many cases, yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can usually be dissolved with an enzyme (hyaluronidase) if it's in the wrong place, causing a problem, or no longer matches your goals. Whether dissolving is appropriate is decided after an assessment.

Dissolving is also part of how filler complications are managed, which is one reason hyaluronic acid is commonly chosen for lips. If you've had filler elsewhere and you're unhappy with the shape or worried about migration, book an assessment before adding more product. Sometimes the best first step is to correct, not add.

Who should not get lip filler, or should wait?

Short answer: Lip filler may need to be postponed or avoided if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active cold sore or infection near the mouth, have a known allergy to filler ingredients, or have certain medical conditions or medications. We review all of this during your consultation.

Please tell us about:

  • pregnancy or breastfeeding,

  • a history of cold sores (a flare can sometimes be triggered by lip treatments),

  • any active skin infection, inflammation or dental infection,

  • allergies, including to anaesthetics,

  • autoimmune or bleeding conditions,

  • medications and supplements, especially those that affect bleeding,

  • previous fillers, permanent implants or surgery in the lip area,

  • upcoming dental work or vaccinations.

If anything in your history means treatment isn't appropriate right now, we'll explain why and what your options are.

What happens at my first visit?

Short answer: New patients start with a medical assessment to review your health history, goals and lip anatomy. If lip filler is appropriate and you're comfortable moving forward, treatment can usually happen at the same appointment.

A typical first lip appointment:

  1. 1

Health history and goals. We review your medical history, medications, allergies and previous treatments, and ask what you'd like to change and what you'd like to keep.

  2. 2

Assessment. We look at your lips at rest and in movement, along with their proportions to your nose, chin and smile.

  3. 3

Plan and price. We recommend an approach and an amount, explain the risks, and confirm the price before anything is done.

  4. 4

Numbing and treatment, if you decide to proceed.

  5. 5

Aftercare and follow-up. You leave with written instructions and know exactly how to reach us.

In Québec, new patients must be assessed by a physician at their first visit. You can also bring photos of lips you like. They help us understand your taste, but your plan is always built around your own anatomy.

Will my lips look natural?

Short answer: Our approach aims for balanced, subtle enhancement that respects your proportions, but no result can be guaranteed, and how lips respond varies from person to person.

At Le RoseWood, beauty is something we enhance gradually, not something we overwrite. We prefer to use the least product appropriate and reassess, rather than do everything in one session. Swelling in the first days is not your final result, which is why we assess at about 2 weeks.

Can you correct lip filler done somewhere else?

Short answer: Often, yes, but it starts with an assessment, not more filler. We look at where existing product sits and how your lips move, then discuss whether to leave it, dissolve some or all of it, or adjust later once things have settled.

If you've had lip filler before, bring whatever details you have: the approximate date, the amount and the clinic. If you don't remember, that's fine too. Common concerns include a blurred lip border, fullness above the lip line, lumps, or lips that no longer feel like yours. In some cases we recommend waiting or dissolving before any new treatment. Your safety and long-term result come before doing something on the same day.

Can lip filler be combined with other treatments?

Short answer: Sometimes. Lips are often assessed together with the chin and overall facial profile, and some people combine lip filler with a lip flip or skin treatments. Whether combining makes sense, and in what order, is decided during your consultation.

Your lips don't exist on their own. Their balance with your chin, nose and smile matters. That's why we offer profile balancing for the chin and lips ($987 + taxes, as of October 2026) for patients whose assessment shows the chin is part of the picture. For fine lines around the mouth or lip texture, skin-quality treatments may be discussed as an alternative or a complement. We'll recommend a sequence that's comfortable, safe and realistic for your schedule and budget.

Who performs lip filler at Le RoseWood?

Short answer: Lip filler is performed by Nisrine El Hila, head nurse at Clinique Le RoseWood, under the medical direction of a physician.

A McGill University graduate, Nisrine built a strong clinical foundation through experience across several specialties before dedicating her practice to aesthetic medicine.

Our team works in French and English.

What is the difference between lip filler and a lip flip?

Short answer: Lip filler adds hyaluronic acid to change hydration, shape or volume. A lip flip is a small neuromodulator treatment that relaxes the muscle around the mouth so the upper lip can show slightly more at rest. It adds no volume.

A lip flip is listed at $150 plus taxes (as of October 2026). Some people are better suited to one or the other, and some combine them. Your consultation will clarify which approach, if any, matches your goal. More on neuromodulators is on our wrinkle-relaxing injections page.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Short answer: Book at least two weeks before any important event, and tell us about your medications and supplements. Let us know right away if you develop a cold sore or feel unwell before your appointment.

A few practical points:

  • Timing: allow at least two weeks before weddings, photos or travel.

  • Medications: don't stop any prescribed medication on your own. Tell us what you take, and we'll advise you.

  • Comfort: plan a calm rest of the day.

  • Getting here: free gated parking is available behind the clinic, with 90 minutes complimentary.
