The Lip Reset

(dissolve + refill)

If previous lip filler no longer gives you the shape or balance you want, sometimes the next step is to reassess what is already there. The Lip Reset combines dissolution of existing hyaluronic acid filler with a personalized refill once your lips are ready.

Why can migration, bumps or lumps happen?

Migration or a blurred lip border

Migration means filler has moved beyond its intended location. Placement, the amount injected and lip movement can contribute. An overfilled appearance can also resemble migration, so an examination matters.

Bumps and uneven texture

Early swelling or unevenly placed filler can cause bumps. Persistent or delayed lumps may involve inflammation or infection and need an assessment; they are not all treated the same way.

Why dissolve before adding more?

When existing filler is contributing to an irregular contour or unwanted fullness, adding more can make it harder to achieve the shape you want. For suitable patients, dissolving first allows us to reassess the lip outline and plan a more balanced result. A reset is not necessary for every bump or every previous filler treatment.

How the process works

  1. Assess your lips and your goals

We review your previous treatments, examine your lips and discuss the result you want. The clinician checks whether dissolution is appropriate and whether the existing filler is hyaluronic acid.

  2. Dissolve the existing filler

When appropriate, a clinician injects hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid filler. It does not dissolve every type of filler. More than one dissolution session may be needed; your treatment plan is discussed before proceeding.

  3. Wait at least two weeks and reassess

This gives swelling time to settle and lets us see the lip shape more clearly before planning a refill. Two weeks is a minimum, not a guaranteed reinjection date: ongoing swelling, inflammation or further dissolution can mean waiting longer.

  4. Refill with a personalized plan

Once the tissues have settled and your clinician confirms it is appropriate, we plan the refill. The 0.5 mL or 1 mL option is chosen according to your anatomy and goals; the volume actually injected remains a clinical decision.

What to expect

Dissolution and reinjection can cause temporary swelling, bruising and tenderness. Hyaluronidase can also cause an allergic reaction. Your clinician reviews the risks and alternatives with you, and results vary from person to person.

Severe or worsening pain, pale or dusky skin, or visual changes after filler need urgent medical assessment. A red, hot or painful lump should also be assessed promptly. Do not wait for a cosmetic reset appointment.
